Iqbal Day 2012

As always, Iqbal Day was celebrated at EPIC with traditional enthusiasm. It was a collaborative effort by the Urdu and English departments consisting of speeches, recitations, dramatic performances and tableaus.

The idea behind it was to refresh the message of Iqbal in children's minds and make them understand its relevance today. Children made passionate speeches on different themes of Iqbal's poetry. The meaning of the symbol of the Falcon Iqbal used in his poetry was explained by participants and Iqbal's message to the youth was highlighted.

Students also shared their thoughts on Iqbal's vision for Pakistan and what he had aspired it should be.
The event was very well received as both entertaining as well as deeply enlightening.

Dengue Awareness Campaign

EPIC aims to instil civic awareness and good citizenship among students. With the Dengue epidemic having hit Lahore and likely to stay for some time, the school decided to launch an awareness drive to educate the children about the risks and preventive measures for Dengue.

The Art department held a Poster Competition in which children from all classes participated. Kids came up with colourfully and creatively presented ideas with attractive captions and helpful information about the spread and prevention of the disease.

These posters were put up on campus and students were made to read them in order to increase their awareness about the epidemic.

Merit certificates were distributed among children whose posters had the best and most attractively presented information. The following students were declared winners:

First: Amina Imran, IV.
Second: Iman Mufti. III.
Third: Fatima Jawad, III.

Annual Qiraat Competition

The inter class Qiraat competition was held in October for the junior and senior classes. Students applied the tajweed skills they had learnt in their classes and recited selected Quranic passages. It was truly beautiful to listen to heart-touching, soulful recitation by the children. The judgement panel comprised of Qari Ramzan and Qari Saifullah, both with years of experience in the teaching of tajweed. The children's performance was so remarkable that there were several ties and many shared positions in the final results.
The effort of the Hifz and Tajweed departments in putting the event together and training the children is certainly commendable.

Hajj Day at EPIC!

On the 9th of Dhul Hijjah EPIC celebrated Hajj day in keeping with its tradition.

This year, the students got to learn the manasik of Hajj through captivating presentations and activities designed by the Islamic Studies faculty.

The senior students watched a documentary on the Journey of Hajj which showed the experiences at Hajj, of a diverse group of Muslims from different parts of the globe. It was an interactive session with students raising questions and participating in discussions to understand the meaning of Hajj. Mrs. Irfan and faculty members who had performed Hajj shared their own Hajj experiences with the children. It was a spiritually rejuvenating experience for all. The session ended with a quiet prayer for ourselves and the ummah on the Great Day of Youm ul Arafah.

Arabic course at EPIC

Mrs. Saadia Saad, a pioneer in a new strategy to teach Arabic Grammar in the simplest possible way, visited EPIC from Karachi to conduct a 10-day Quranic Arabic course for staff and parents (mothers).

The course was a continuation from the module on analyzing Nouns that had been held in the summer. These ten days the focus was on the different types of verbs as well as identifying and analyzing sentences. The methodology included applcation of concepts learnt to the Quran itself as students marked words and phrases and analyzed them in the firs Juz of the Quran.

Mrs. Saad's innovative, simple and lively manner of teaching made the classes an enjoyable learning experience. The feedback from students has been excellent as the learning has truly helped make the reading of the Quran have greater meaning even without a translation available.

May Allah reward the effort and enable us to understand and appreciate the linguistic miracle of the Quran.

Staff members who have undergone this training in a new approach to teach Arabic have now introduced the same as part of the Arabic curriculum at EPIC.

Charity Campaign at EPIC

This term EPIC students enthusiastically participated in a charity collection campaign to raise funds for the school for street children that EPIC has adopted.
Other than bringing in donations in cash and kind, children thought of innovative ways to generate money. All senior classes held Bake Sales during recess selling home-cooked healthy food items. Sizable profits were made as scores of little ones purchased goodies for a good cause. The profits were donated to EPIC's adopted street shelter.

The campaign was a remarkable success. Not only did the school for street children benefit from the effort but our own students developed vital skills in social entrepreneurship in the process.
